AB 2664 Script

Feel free to speak from the heart instead of reading a script. If you are Jewish, it is especially powerful to say in your own words that this bill does not speak for you. But if you would rather read something, here is a short script:

"Hi, my name is [name] and I'm a constituent from [city]. I'm calling to urge [Assemblymember/Senator name] to vote NO on AB 2664. Existing law already prohibits harassment and violence at houses of worship. What AB 2664 actually does is criminalize peaceful protest against synagogues that host events tied to the illegal sale of Palestinian land. The ACLU opposes this bill on First Amendment grounds. [If relevant: And as a Jewish Californian, I do too.] Please vote no."

Also call to oppose three other bills supported by pro-Israel advoates in CA: Call now or later! 

Pro-Israel advocates in California are pushing a few bills through the CA State Legislature. The CA Assembly and Senate will vote on these bills in August.  This year we have four priority bills we're opposing: AB 2615, AB 2664, SB 998, and SB 1387.

We need to challenge them.

Call your CA state representatives to oppose bills that conflate support for Israel with Judaism, restrict honest speech and education about Palestine, criminalize peaceful protest outside houses of worship, erase the diversity of Jewish identity by reducing it to a single ethnicity checkbox on state forms.

Call now, while the legislature is out of session, so staffers have time to hear from constituents before votes resume. Then keep calling through August, when the legislature reconvenes and these bills are back in active consideration.
